JEFF HOLMES - ATTORNEY AT LAW
I was born and raised in the beautiful state of Washington, and have lived here my whole life. I grew up in a small farm town about an hour north of Seattle, where I lived until I was 18 years old. I attended the University of Washington beginning in 1999 to pursue my Business Degree, and graduated with concentrations in Management and Finance. After completing that pursuit, I chose to stay in Seattle to receive my Law Degree from Seattle University, doing so with honors. During my studies in Law School I chose to focus my attention on Criminal Law with the hope of someday using my degree to assist members of the public through the criminal justice system.
After graduation from law school in 2006, I chose to move to Clark County to accept a job working as a Deputy Prosecuting Attorney. During my 5+ years as a Deputy Prosecutor I handled thousands of criminal cases while working in the District Court unit, the Juvenile Court unit, and lastly, in the Domestic Violence Unit. I have gone to trial on over 100 cases in my time working in Prosecuting Attorney's offices, and have handled cases ranging from simple and gross misdemeanors, all the way up to Felony Assault, Robbery, Burglary, Rape, Kidnap, Felony Harassment, Third Strike prosecutions and multiple Attempted Murder prosecutions.
During my time at the Prosecutor's office I received extensive training, including training at the National Advocacy Center in South Carolina on Trial Practices as well as on Cross Examination. In additional to general trial technique training, I also attending case specific training put on by the National District Attorneys Association on how to Prosecute the Domestic Violence case and on how to Prosecute Sexual Assault cases. My prior training and on the job experience has provided me a complete understanding of how the Prosecution handles a case from the early stages of an investigation to the eventual plea bargain or trial.
I still have a passion for criminal law, and the focus of my practice is on criminal defense. I also have a growing interest in family law work after my extended time in the Domestic Violence Unit, and currently am working with clients in most areas of family law, including divorce, legal separation, permanent or temporary orders, child custody issues and child support issues. My prior experience in negotiations as a Prosecutor has also led me to the area of personal injury law, and working for clients in negotiating with Insurance Companies provide a constant challenge that I find very rewarding in practice. See peer endorsements and reviews on AVVO where I am rated "very good" within the legal community.
When I am not working towards a successful resolution for a current client, I enjoy spending my time traveling the world as well as traveling around the Pacific Northwest. I enjoy kayaking, camping and hiking throughout Washington and Oregon, and explored Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Park this fall on a backpacking trip.
